Full services are close
Almost no dune destination has a city this close. Four miles from the sand there is fuel, food, lodging, parts, and a hospital, and that changes how much you have to carry.
The city is the base for everything, about a twenty minute round trip from camp. Love's Travel Stop at I-90 exit 174 runs 24 hours with RV parking, a dump, propane, and DEF, which makes it the practical arrival stop for a long rig. Safeway on S Pioneer Way covers groceries and a pharmacy. North 40 Outfitters on W Broadway carries ATV parts, trailer parts, oils, and fuel-transfer gear, and is the reason a broken weekend here is usually recoverable.
The county seat, northwest of the city, adds lodging and services and is the sensible approach if you are coming from that direction. It is also where county business is conducted, which occasionally matters if you need something from the county rather than from a shop.
South of the recreation area, useful for travellers approaching from that side. Confirm your route and current road conditions before committing to it, particularly in winter, because the southern approaches are less trafficked than the I-90 corridor.
Four miles south of the city limits on Potatoe Hill Road. Take Division Street south, or exit 174 off I-90 and follow the signs. Trailer the machines; ATVs are not permitted on county roadways unless specifically authorized by law, so the ORV area being open does not open the roads to it.
This is the part visitors underuse. Moses Lake supports real fishing and water recreation, and a windy or smoky day that kills the riding does not have to kill the weekend. Fishing here is under current WDFW rules, which are separate from anything the county sets for the dunes.
Central Washington delivers wind, summer heat, wildfire smoke, and winter fog, any of which can end riding. Having a town plan already agreed keeps a group from sitting in trailers arguing about it. Parks, food, and the waterfront are all close enough to reach on short notice.
Moses Lake is a working agricultural and industrial city, not a resort town, and lodging can be tight when events or harvest coincide with a holiday weekend. If your plan depends on a room rather than a trailer, confirm it before you leave home.
